Your daily WLS Multivitamin: For some it’s peanuts, for others it’s not easy. Whether you have trouble swallowing, get nauseous easily or simply forget the multivitamin – with these 9 handy tips, taking multivitamins becomes a lot easier.
Take the WLS Multivitamin during or immediately after a meal, such as with breakfast, lunch or dinner. The fat-soluble vitamins in the multivitamin need a little fat from food to ensure the best absorption. You can also take them before going to bed as it reduces the risk of nausea.
The easiest way to swallow a capsule is with a sip of water or a sugar-free drink. Move your chin towards your chest and not backwards while swallowing the multivitamin. By doing so, you make the passage of your esophagus larger. This makes swallowing easier. You can also slightly moisten the capsule in your mouth. That way, the outside of the capsule can’t get stuck in your throat.
If you have trouble swallowing capsules, choose a chewable vitamin*. If that doesn’t work, break the chewable tablet in half. Or open the capsule and take the powder inside. Mix the powdder with a bit of sugar-free applesauce, mashed fruit or other sugar-free liquid food. Why sugar free? After a stomach reduction you may not be able to tolerate sugar and sugary foods as well.
Nausea can sometimes occur because WLS Multivitamins contain high doses of vitamins and minerals. In addition, your stomach, esophagus and small intestine may still be sensitive from the surgery. Do not take the multivitamin on an empty stomach. A warm drink before a meal, such as mint or chamomile tea or chicken broth will also help against feeling nauseous. Or try ginger (drops or tea) to keep your stomach calm. If these tips still don’t do the trick, then take the multivitamin before bed. After all, when you’re asleep, you can’t feel nauseous.
Are you taking calcium supplements in addition to WLS Multivitamins? Or do you use dairy products such as cheese, yogurt and milk? If so, make sure there is at least 2 hours between the intake of the multivitamin, calcium and dairy, as calcium limits the absorption of iron. Iron is an important mineral and is contained in WLS Multivitamins. In addition, your body does not absorb more than 500 milligrams of calcium at a time. Calcium is also found in dairy products. Therefore, we recommend taking the multivitamin separately from calcium supplements and dairy.
Have you just had surgery? Then wait a while with taking WLS Multivitamins. The surgery is no small thing and your body needs time to recover. Swallowing is also often painful. Therefore, we advise you to eat only liquid food for the first two weeks after surgery and to take multivitamins only after two weeks.
You undoubtedly have enough on your mind. And if you’ve just had surgery, a multivitamin is probably not the first thing you think of. No wonder you forget to take it once in a while. So set a daily reminder on your phone. Or just stick a note on the fridge. This will make it a lot harder to forget!
Weight loss surgery is invasive. A lot happens around the time of the procedure. But even after that, a lot of things change and you have to get used to them. So don’t be too hard on yourself. Nobody is perfect and it takes time to learn new habits. Did you forget to take the multivitamin? Don’t panic. Take the multivitamin as soon as you remember and set a reminder for yourself.
