Are you feeling extremely tired in the first few weeks after your stomach reduction? Know that this is completely normal. In this blog, you'll learn why this happens and what you can do to regain more energy.
Do you find it difficult to get out of bed in the period after your stomach reduction because you’re so exhausted? Or do you notice that after grocery shopping, you immediately feel like going back to sleep? Know that feeling very tired after your stomach reduction is completely normal.
You’ve just had a stomach reduction, and that’s no small feat! Your body is working hard to recover from it, which requires a tremendous amount of energy.
Since your smaller stomach now holds less food, your body has less nutrition to draw energy from. Almost all the energy your body has, is currently being used for recovery. This is why you may feel extremely tired after the surgery.
Fluids are crucial for your body. They help ensure that your blood can be easily pumped throughout your body. You also need fluids to extract energy from food. It’s very important to keep drinking enough.
Drinking a whole glass of water might be too heavy on your stomach, so try to drink small amounts of water throughout the day. For example, always carry a water bottle with you.
Nowadays, there are very handy water bottles with time markers on the outside. These are a great reminder to check if you’ve had your water by a certain time. Just be sure to drink the water in small sips, or it could still be too much for your stomach.
"I noticed that tap water was really heavy on my stomach. I then tried bottled water, and it was much easier to handle. You’d think water is just water, but apparently not! I definitely recommend trying this. Alternatively, a light soup can also be a good way to get enough fluids."
Another tip we often hear from our customers is to use flavour pods or a bit of cordial. This can make the water easier to drink.
Proteins are important for your muscles and recovery, so it’s essential to consume enough. This gives your body the support it needs right now. Proteins can be found in eggs, chicken breast, tuna, pumpkin seeds, and soybeans.
Try this smoothie bowl with fruit and pumpkin seeds or our light salad with chicken. If you’re not ready for solid food yet, you can also make a smoothie with an extra scoop of protein powder.
Exercise is, of course, very beneficial, but take it easy. Try walking a little or doing exercises at home. Listen carefully to your body while doing so.
Do you notice that exercising is making you more tired? Then take the rest you need. Tomorrow is another day.
