8 Tips for taking your daily multivitamin

Taking your daily multivitamin should feel simple - but we know it's not always the case. Maybe you find pills hard to swallow, feel nauseous after taking them, or you struggle to stick to a daily routine.

You're not alone, and we're here to help. These 8 practical tips make it easier to stay consistent with your multivitamins - so you can focus on feeling your best.

Make sure you've eaten before taking your multivitamins

Try to take your multivitamins with lunch or dinner - when you have food in your stomach, you're less likely to feel nauseous. Plus, the fat-soluble vitamins in the multivitamins work best when paired with a little dietary fat from your meal. This helps your body absorb the nutrients more effectively, so you get the most from every dose.

Focus on how you're taking the multivitamin

Take your multivitamin with the last bite of your meal, or swallow it with a sip of water or a sugar-free drink. If swallowing feels difficult, try this: tuck your chin toward your chest as you swallow. This simple movement widens your esophagus and makes the capsule go down more easily.

You can also lightly moisten the capsule with a bit of tap water first. This helps prevent it from sticking in your throat and makes swallowing more comfortable.

Try a different form if you struggle to swallow capsules.

If swallowing capsules feels challenging, you have options. Our multivitamins come in three forms: capsules, chewables, and soft chews. Chewables can be broken in half to make them easier to manage - helpful if you prefer smaller portions or want to take half at different times during your meal. Soft chews can be broken into smaller pieces and taken throughout the day, or you can simply suck on them and eat slowly, whatever feels most comfortable. Find the form that works best for you - staying consistent shouldn't feel like a struggle.

What to do if you feel nauseous

If you're still experiencing nausea even after taking your multivitamin with food, try these strategies: Let chewables dissolve slowly in your mouth instead of chewing them right away - this gentler approach can be easier on your stomach. Sip on fresh mint, lemon, or ginger tea after taking your multivitamin. These can help settle your stomach naturally. If discomfort continues, try taking your multivitamin before bed. When you're asleep, you won't experience the nausea. These small adjustments can help you stay consistent without the discomfort.

Space out calcium and dairy from your multivitamin

If you're taking calcium supplements or consuming dairy products like cheese, yogurt, or milk, timing matters. Leave at least 2 hours between your multivitamin and calcium or dairy intake. Here's why: calcium can limit your body's ability to absorb iron, an essential mineral in your multivitamin. Plus, your body can only absorb up to 500 milligrams of calcium at a time - and dairy products contain calcium too. By spacing them out, you help your body absorb both nutrients more effectively. It's a simple adjustment that makes a real difference in getting the most from your supplements.

Set a daily reminder

Life gets busy, and when you have a lot on your mind, taking your daily multivitamin can easily slip through the cracks. It happens to everyone. Set a daily reminder on your phone or stick a note somewhere you'll see it - on the fridge, your bathroom mirror, or next to your coffee maker. These simple prompts make it much easier to stay consistent. Building the habit takes time, but small reminders help turn your multivitamin routine into second nature.

Be kind to yourself

Managing your health is a journey, and a lot can change along the way. Don't be too hard on yourself- nobody's perfect, and building new habits takes time. Forgot to take your multivitamin? It happens. Take it as soon as you remember, then set a reminder so it's easier next time. Progress, not perfection, is what matters.
