We’re often asked why our capsules are relatively large. In this blog, we’ll explain why that is and how it actually helps your body.
After a bariatric surgery, your body absorbs fewer vitamins and minerals out of food. That’s why it’s important to take WLS multivitamins to help keep your body in balance.
When you take a capsule, your body immediately starts working on it. The contents of the capsule need to be absorbed as quickly and efficiently as possible. This ensures that the capsule’s nutrients are actually absorbed by your body.
To aid in this process, our FitForMe WLS capsules are porous in structure. This means they have a low density and break apart more easily in your stomach. As a result, the released vitamins can be optimally absorbed by your body.
We’ve conducted extensive research into making our multivitamin capsules smaller. However, this research revealed that smaller capsules would have a higher density. This means the vitamins and minerals would be packed too tightly, preventing them from being properly released in your stomach. Consequently, they wouldn’t be sufficiently absorbed and would mostly be excreted through urine or stool.
We understand that taking a large capsule can be challenging, but proper absorption of vitamins and minerals is crucial after a bariatric surgery. That’s why our WLS multivitamin capsules are relatively large. The good news is that you only need to take them once a day.
If you’re having trouble taking the large capsule, try these tips:
Take the capsule with a sip of water or a sugar-free drink. Lower your chin towards your chest while swallowing the capsule. This opens up your esophagus and makes swallowing easier.
Lightly moisten the capsule with water. This prevents the outside of the capsule from sticking to your throat.
You can open the capsule and mix the contents (powder) with food. Combine it with a spoonful of sugar-free applesauce, mashed fruit, or other sugar-free liquid food.
If you’re using WLS Optimum or WLS Forte, you can switch to a soft chewable version. This might be easier for you to take. Feel free to contact us if you’d like to try the chewable variant.
